UPDATED INFORMATION ABOUT PASSPORT APPLICATIONS
(from an email on November 28, 2022 sent out by Sarah)

All of our participants in AWG 2023 will have to have current passports in order to travel to Fort McMurray. We are very tight against the possibility of getting this done. Please get on this right away! If they have not applied for a passport in the next week or so, they face the real possibility of not being able to go to the Games.

1. Passport applications for all our kids and adults have to be done in person (not online). Kids under 16 have to appear in person with both parents, Kids 16 and 17 also have to appear in person, probably with one parent. Here are the links to the requirements:
General Passport Info: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/passport-help.html
Applying for a passport for kids under 16: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/need-passport/under-16.html
Applying for a passport for kids 16-17: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/need-passport/16-17.html

2. Take advantage of the special dates in Anchorage this Friday and Saturday at the Anchorage Airport discussed below to apply if at all possible. We are running out of time. Otherwise, you will have to make an appointment to apply for your kids. You can check when appointments are available at www.usps.com/scheduler or https://tools.usps.com/rcas.htm . Be aware that anytime after very early in December may not allow enough time to get your passport before travel. Also note that in some counties there may be several post offices or other locations where you can apply. Try them all for the earliest possible dates.

3. Special Application Days for Anchorage Area Athletes.
We are trying to set up 2 special days for our team members to apply for passports at the Anchorage Airport Post Office for Friday and Saturday December 2 and 3, so that individual appointments are not necessary. To set this up we need the names of all the athletes in the Anchorage area who can take advantage of this — and we need those names by noon on Tuesday. Please email me and Bill Cotton at wcotton@gci.net the names by noon Tuesday/tomorrow. His cell is 907-440-1392

4. It will help if applicants and their parents have downloaded all the forms and filled them out before going in to the Anchorage Airport Post Office or your other appointment to apply. A couple of tips: you must use black ink and use the mother’s maiden name when filling out the mother’s name. (It says parent’s name at birth.) Also, there is a fee for expedited applications – about $80 to $200 – I am getting conflicting numbers. Do not bring a check since it must clear before they can begin processing and we don’t have enough time to wait. Bring either cash or a debit card. (Not a credit card.) Also, please bring an original birth certificate and a driver’s license or other ID for parents.

5. Feel free to email or call Bill Cotton, our mission staff person who is trying to organize this, with questions. wcotton@gci.net or 907-4401392. Also, we will probably need someone at the Post Office for at least part of the time Friday and or Saturday. Please email or text me and Bill if you are available. (Bill is organizing our uniforms Friday and Saturday at the warehouse so cannot do this.)
