Arctic Winter Games

Every two years, Alaska athletes have an opportunity to participate in the Arctic Winter Games.

The Arctic Winter Games (http://www.arcticwintergames.org/) is a circumpolar sport competition for northern and arctic athletes.  The Games provide an opportunity to strengthen sport development in the participants’ jurisdictions, to promote the benefits of sport, to build partnerships, and to promote culture and values. The Games celebrate sport, social exchange and cultures. The Games provide an opportunity for the developing athlete to compete in friendly competition while sharing cultural values from northern regions around the world.

2024 AWG Team Selection

We’ll be using our USSS Western Region Championships selection boards to determine the athletes who will be invited to the 2024 Arctic Winter Games.  The events contested in these selection boards will depend on the age bracket (and year of birth).   You can view the 2024 AK Division Competition Calendar here, to see which races are in the U14 WR Champs Selection Boards, or the U16 WR Champs Selection Boards.

Quota for 2024

  • 3 Males 12-13 years of age as of December 31, 2023
    Year of birth: 2010 or 2011 (U14)
  • 3 Females 12-13 years of age as of December 31, 2023
    Year of birth: 2010 or 2011 (U14)
  • 3 Males 14-15 years of age as of December 31, 2023
    Year of birth: 2008 or 2009 (U16)
  • 3 Females 14-15 years of age as of December 31, 2023
    Year of birth: 2008 or 2009 (U16)
  • 3 Coaches

Athletes may participate in their respective Western Regional Championship, or the Tri-Divisionals event, or Arctic Winter Games.  Athletes may NOT attend more than one of these events.
